MH Wilds Back to Camp Walkthrough
“After her rescue, the young girl, Nona, explains that her brother lured away a Chatacabra to protect her. The Hunter slays the monster and escorts the young man, Y’sai, back to the camp.”
Back to Camp Objectives Walkthrough
Talk to Nata
In the Plain Site Base Camp, your optional objective is to speak with Nata, who will be the closest person to you — you can always find him close to your tent, sitting around.
You can select different dialogue choices with him, asking about what he remembers and how he’s doing.
Talk to your Guildmates
Now you’ll have to talk to three main NPCs in any order you want. They will unlock or at least tease important features that will aid you throughout Monster Hunter Wilds’ campaign.
You’ll see their locations (and every other main objective in the future) marked with a red icon on your map. You can open it to make it bigger if you want.
First we talked to Jack, who is right in front of your tent, a few steps forward. He’s standing on some boxes.
Speak with him and he will tell you that he doesn’t have any provisions yet, but that he will soon. He’ll become your source to buy items, so keep him in mind.
Then you can turn right and speak with Gemma, the group’s blacksmith. Doing so will unlock the Smithy, which is the place where you can forge and upgrade different pieces of equipment like your weapons and armor.
A great part of Monster Hunter Wilds’ gameplay loop is to hunt monsters, collect their parts, and craft them into weapons and pieces of armor. As you’ll need different quantities of specific parts for each weapon and equipment and what you earn changes every time, you’ll have to repeat hunts until you earn what you need.
To try its features, Gemma gives you Chatacabra Hides x2 and Chatacabra Shells x2 so you can forge some pieces of equipment. Forge the Chatacabra equipment that you want and try it on. We recommend the torso armor because it gives more defense.
Finally, speak with Olivia. Her camp is behind Gemma’s Smithy. Olivia tells you about the Training Area, where you will find the High Purrformance Barrel Puncher. This one is at the end of the camp, past the Expedition Command tent. It has an entrance with a door icon, two arrows, and a red mark.
Once you enter here, you’ll be able to fast travel just by opening your map and pressing X/A on the location’s icon.
In this training area, you’ll find the Meownager. You can speak with him to restore resources and change the hide and wound settings of your target. The target is the cart with barrels you see on your right, and it will withstand all your blows and attacks.
When you’re starting the game, this is a good location to discover and experiment with every new type of weapon you try, so you don’t start a hunt without knowing how to fight.
Enter the Expedition Command tent
When you’re done training, go to the main tent in the camp. Here you’ll be in a meeting with the main characters, discussing what to do next.
Enter your tent
After the dialogue, you’ll be tasked with entering your tent for the first time. This will be your place to prepare for hunts, since you will unlock many options for your character.
- Item Menu: Here you can transfer items from your Item Box to your Item Pouch and vice versa. You can also craft and sell items, and you can customize your radial menu (the wheels that pop-up when you hold L1/LB).
- Equipment Menu: Change or sell the equipment you have, including your different pieces of armor and your weapons. You can also view and sell your Decorations, special items that give you buffs and skills. Lastly, you can customize your Bowgun, changing the type of mod ammo that you can equip to it, and your loadout.
- Palico Menu: You can change your Palico’s gear (later, when you forge some, you’ll be able to check it and sell it from here, too). You can also change its status to “Standby” to leave it resting while you’re on missions. It will still gain experience.
- Quest Menu: Post or join a quest using different options, like checking Assignments (main campaign missions), Optional Quests (repeat a hunt of a monster that you already met), Event Quests, and other ways of connecting with players already in quests.
- BGM Menu: You can change the music that sounds while you’re in the tent and the camp.
- Appearance Menu: Change how you and your Palico look, using the character creation menu you used at the beginning of your adventure. You can also change your character’s and Palico’s equipment look with some specific pieces of gear that you have in your inventory — this is usually referred as transmog.
The character creation options will be limited. For example, you can change your outfit, hair, and makeup, but not your face’s physique. To do so, you need a Character Edit Voucher or a Palico Edit Voucher, which can be acquired by purchasing them as DLC.
For the time being, you won’t be able to change your equipment looks with every piece of gear that you have unlocked.
Once you exit the tent, you’ll have finished the chapter.
